Princess Beatrix married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at Windsor this morning, with around 20 guests including the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of York.
The couple was forced to postpone their grand planned ceremony due to the coronavirus crisis, but went ahead with an intimate ceremony behind closed doors.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were photographed being driven on the walk to the wedding on Friday morning, the Sun newspaper reported, prior to the ceremony at All Saints’ Chapel in Windsor Great Park.
Princess Beatrice and Mister Mapelli Mozzi were to be married in the Royal Chapel at St James’s Palace in London in May with 150 guests and a larger planned reception.
Instead, they invited close friends and family for a private wedding.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mister Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11 am on Friday, July 17 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
“The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close relatives. The wedding was carried out in accordance with all relevant government Guidelines.”
It is believed to be the first time that the Duke of York has been with the Queen and Prince Philip since the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell and the revival of the Epstein scandal.
Later today, the Queen will appear in public for a special outdoor ceremony with Knight Captain Tom Moore at Windsor Castle.
