Has the monarchy failed Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, leaving behind their royal duties? Find freedom co-author Omid Scobie believes the royal family could have provided a better support system for the Sussexes.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left their royal duties
Prince Harry and Meghan were bombed in January when they announced their plan to take a step back from their royal duties. When Queen Elizabeth called a meeting to discuss her proposal, it was decided that the Sussexes would make their official resignation from the royal family in March and relinquish their HRH titles, as well as all public funding.
At the moment, Prince Harry was heartbreaking about not being able to strike a more half-in / half-out arrangement that would allow her to divide her time between the United Kingdom and North America.
“The decision I made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly,” Prince Harry said in a speech at the time. “It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I’m not always right, but as far as this was concerned, there really was no other option. “
He noted that although they had hoped to ‘continue the Queen’s service’, her request could not be granted. ‘I have accepted this knowing that it does not change who I am or how dedicated I am, but I hope it helps you understand what it was that I would step my family back from everything I ever knew to no one is moving forward towards what I hope will be a calmer life, ”he explained.

Royal expert is of the opinion that ‘race played a role’ in its decision
The couple found the negative media attention that accompanied their lives in the spotlight to be overwhelming and part of that, Scobie said Good Morning America, was the way racism played a part in controlling.
“As for the boxes that feathers may ruffle in an old institution like that of the monarchy, she would have clicked them all,” Scobie explained. “Race has played a role.”
Part of the issue, Scobie said, is that Meghan did not feel comfortable in the royal family. He shared his own experience as an example. ‘I myself have even had moments as a two-race royal correspondent within the institution. I will never forget the moment an aide, when a senior helper near the Queen said to me, ‘I would never have expected you to speak like that,’ and that level of ignorance I think might have been very difficult for Meghan, ” Ascertained the author.
The Sussexes were defeated by the monarchy, experts claim
Prince Harry and Meghan’s departure from the family, Scobie explained, might have been avoided if they had not “failed by the monarchy.” If the monarchy had shown an acceptance of the diversity that Meghan brought to the family, it would have been an opportunity for the institution to evolve.
‘History will remember them as a couple who may have failed at the institution of the monarchy, where this was an opportunity to have a woman of color, an American woman of color, in the house of Windsor who held the monarchy just as deserving as her husband, ”Scobie explained.
He added, “That was the opportunity for the royal family to have diversity, inclusivity and representation in a way that no other moment in their lives could have brought and not to use for them, that is something I am sure of that historians will look to the coming years. “
“They had no choice but to leave because they both knew it would not go on they would just go on as they were,” Scobie notes.
