Azim, the fourth in line of the Southeast Asian nation’s throne and famous in Hollywood as a filmmaker, died on Saturday morning.
The government has not disclosed the cause of his death.
The Sultan’s second-born son was known for hosting extravagant parties with celebrities including Pamela Anderson, Janet Jackson and Maria Carey.
She produced a handful of movies, including a part-time career in the film industry, including the 2014 feature “You Are Not” starring Hillary Swank, despite international outrage over her father’s actions in Brunei.
Azim’s funeral was held on Saturday, and the nation has now entered a seven-day period of mourning.
Leaders of several neighboring countries expressed their condolences.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Azim was “known for his kind and generous spirit and his dedication to charity, education and youth causes.”
The Indonesian embassy said in a statement that the prince “will always be remembered with love.”
