The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is already a much improved phone, but here’s something that still makes it special: a price drop between generations.
The starting price of Fold 2 of £ 1,799 was spotted on Samsung’s UK retail site (via Android Authority). Samsung has since removed the price from the store page, but not before Android Authority had already taken a screenshot.
That price directly converting to USD gives us $ 2,386. However, this is almost incorrect because there are regional differences between the two markets.
But compared to the original Galaxy Fold, this can actually be cheaper. That model costs instead of £ 1,899, rather than $ 1,980, which means that although the Fold 2 seems to be a much more competent phone, it costs £ 100 / $ 100 less.
There is only one storage option to choose from, which is 256 GB. That will be combined with 12 GB of RAM as previously rumored water has. However, you get two color choices: Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze, which we have already seen in real life on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
Other upgrades have been made to the Fold 2 displays. Not only are the internal and external displays larger than the original, the internal display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
On the back, the camera array has the same trio of 12MP cameras that Samsung added to the Galaxy S20. That’s a combination of main, ultrawide and 3x telephoto sensors, which should suffice for most people. However, it lacks a time-of-flight sensor for enhanced photo effects, like Samsung’s top camera tech like its 108MP main sensor of the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, as well as the 5x optical zoom telephoto camera of the Note 20 Ultra.
The official launch date of the Fold 2 will be on an “Unpacked Part 2” September 1, after Samsung originally unveiled the device at its Unpacked event in August.
