WASHINGTON – President Trump will be seen every day of the Republican National Convention, officials involved in planning it, a departure from previous nominating events when candidates were exhibited last night.
Mr. Trump will accept the nomination on the last night of the four-day convention during a prime-time speech on August 27th. Plend for delivery of the White House land. But convention planners and campaign officials said Mr. Trump would be actively included in the fourth-day convention, including one day when the president will honor doctors, nurses and other workers on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic .
The week will feature speeches by the four eldest children and first lady of President Melania Trump, who is scheduled to speak on August 25. Vice President Mike Pence will be the featured speaker on August 26. His remarks come from Fort McHenry, the national monument in Baltimore, best known as the site of a battle in the War of 1812 that inspired Francis Scott Key to “The Star- Spangled Banner.”
Other speakers during the week will include Sens. Tim Scott (R., SC) and Joni Ernst (R., Iowa), House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy of California and Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, officials said.
Campaign officials said many details of the convention had not yet been completed. The pandemic has sparked large, personal gatherings. The early reluctance of the president to go to a virtual convention slowed down decision-making about locations and plans.
