President Trump bids farewell to Brother Robert

President Trump said goodbye to his brother Robert in a quiet, private ceremony on the north porch steps outside the White House on Friday night.

Robert Trump died Saturday in a New York hospital, and the president, who visited him during his final hours, held hands with First Lady Melania Trump as pallbearers carried Robert’s coffin to a waiting lord.

“Robert, I love you,” Trump tweeted Friday night. “Rest in peace!”

Bagpipes played “Stay with me” as the president walked behind the coffin with a few dozen family friends solemnly standing at a distance.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, passed away last night,” the president wrote in a statement released regarding his brother’s death. “He was not only my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live forever in my heart.”

He told the New York Post on Monday that, although the death of his brother was expected, he had wrestled with the news.

“It was not a great weekend. It’s very hard. You knew it was going to happen, but even if it did, it would be a very difficult thing to do, “Trump said.
