Bush, said Sunday that he supports the push to rename army bases named after Confederate leaders.
“It would change the name of the bases. We didn’t really have that about it a few years ago, now with Black Lives Matter and all the problems that we have before us, I think it’s a good idea to rename the 10 US Army bases that are named after the Confederates, “Powell said on CBS’s” Face the Nation. ”

Powell said he did his training at Fort Benning in Georgia, named after a Confederate figure, and it never occurred to him to consider changing the name of the base or others, but said he supports the comments by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, that the military should consider renaming the bases.
“I fully support what General Milley is doing. I hope he doesn’t have any difficulties with the rest of the administration, but I think this is something we should do and we should do it as quickly as possible, “added Powell.
Last week, Milley said that young African-American soldiers at Army bases named after the Confederates “may recall that this general fought for a slavery institution that may have enslaved one of his ancestors.”
