I’m not really sure what to make of this recent teaser art BossLogic, which is a poster for “INJUSTIC3” aka Injustice 3, a game that many believe will be revealed at DC Fandome.
BossLogic is known for creating high quality fan quality (in addition to its many professional projects), but it supports NetherRealm’s Ed Boon in the tweet, the spirit behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice, who actually attended the DC Fandome event later in August. BossLogic itself will be there as well, which seems significant.
My judgment is that it’s probably just a fantasy that BossLogic did. And yet, after an enormous DC event, Boon brings up in-depth questions about the potential announcement of Injustice 3 as … why would he be any different?
And that raises questions about what new set of heroes and villains would be added to the already expanded roster. As a teaser from BossLogic, false or not, indicates, the obvious choice would be Watchmen.
DC has done a lot of gaming with new Watchmen stories in the comic books, and they are also greening up the award-winning HBO series. So, who could potentially be added to Injustice as fighters?
From the main story of the comic strip:
- The cabaret artist
- Nite owl
- Ozymandias
- Rorschach
- Silk Specter
From the show:
- Sisternacht
- Hooded Justice (also the strip)
And of course the big question mark over all Watchmen stories: Dr. Manhattan.
My judgment is that if we had a Watchmen-themed Injustice game, it would be essentially impossible to get Dr. Manhattan not to be missed, not only as a fighter, but probably as the main focal point of the entire storyline. I understand that this does not make logical sense, because he rarely “fights” anyone in the story lines and can just disintegrate anything he wants with a glance. And yet this is a video game, and one where we can see Harley Quinn beat Superman with a pallet and win. So yes, I think Dr. Manhattan will come up, drifting around and blowing energy bubbles like a more traditional fighting game character.
Past Watchmen, it’s someone’s guess who can lure DC into the game, but I know in recent years The Batman Who Laughs is all the rage, so I would not be surprised to see him as a major addition .
Again, nothing is confirmed, but between Ed Boon at DC Fandome and this potential placement, the time seems right for an announcement of Injustice 3, and DC’s catalog seems set up to unleash Watchmen characters in the game. I’m sure Alan Moore is upset.
