Post-election protests in Kyrgyzstan have pushed the country to the brink of insurgency

Officials said they did not rule out another vote.

According to preliminary results, thousands of strong protests erupted after the two founding parties, one of which is close to President Soronbay Jinbekov, according to preliminary results.

Protesters demanded that the results of the vote be annulled and the Central Election Commission said on Tuesday it would consider their request, local news website 24.kg reported.

The Russian news agency RIA quoted a spokesman for Jinbekov as saying that he also did not refuse to announce the results of the election.

The building, known locally as the White House, caught fire early Tuesday morning and was quickly evacuated.

Protesters then stormed the headquarters of the State Committee on National Security and released former President Almazbek Atambayev, who was sentenced to a long prison term earlier this year on corruption charges after leaving with his successor, Jinbekov.

Jinbekov said late Monday that he would meet with leaders of all parties participating in the election on Tuesday.

Opposition groups called for the beleagured PM to resign, saying he had no plans to resign.

One person was killed and hundreds were injured in the overnight clashes, the government said.
