A stray dog has been exposed to rabies and anyone who sees it should be clear and call 911, Allentown officials said Monday afternoon in a warning to residents.
“An urban animal control officer observed the dog in a fight with a skunk on Wednesday, August 5,” the warning said. “The officer tried to calm the dog down, but he escaped through a fence in the backyard.”
Earlier Monday, tests on the skunk returned positive for rabies.
The warning says residents near the 1200 block of South Seventh Street should be on the lookout for the dog, who is described as a mad, tan pit pit that has visible flesh wounds on its snout and old scars all over his body.
A canvass from the neighborhood came up no one who was familiar with the dog.
Everyone who sees the dog is asked not to approach it and call 911.
