Anyone who attended two Seward businesses earlier in the week should now be tested for COVID-19 due to possible exposure of two people to the coronavirus, health officials said Friday.
Visitors and employees who were at the Seward Alehouse on Sunday between noon and 7 pm; Monday between 9 pm and midnight; o Tuesday between noon and 7 pm you should be tested, according to the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services.
“Unfortunately, one of our staff members tested positive for COVID-19,” said Seward Alehouse on Facebook. “They are currently in quarantine, resting and on the path to a healthy recovery.”
Additionally, the state recommended testing for people who were at the Yukon Bar at any time on Tuesday. The bar was closed pending virus testing for all employees, the Yukon bar said on Facebook on Thursday.
The City of Seward, in an alert Friday, echoed calls from the state for those people to get tested.
On Thursday, two Seward residents tested positive for COVID-19 and are close contacts, the city said. In total, there are three active cases of the disease in Seward.
“The Department of Public Health defines two or more cases as an ‘outbreak.’ While this term may sound scary, Seward residents can be assured that there are response measures in place, ”the city said.
In addition to the Yukon Bar and Seward Alehouse, several other downtown Seward businesses temporarily closed as a proactive measure, according to the city.
The tests will be available to those in need from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and from 10 am to noon and from 1 to 2 pm next Monday through Thursday at the Seward Community Health Center.
