‘Pose’, ‘Booksmart’ among the honorees – Deadline

GLAAD held its first virtual edition of its GLAAD Media Awards and was as energetic and entertaining as if we were in person doing kiki and honoring the media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. If you were unable to view the virtual ceremony, the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards will air on Logo on August 3.

GLAAD Media Awards Hosts Gina Yashere and Fortune Feimster

Hosted poolside and outdoors by comedians Fortune Feimster and Gina Yashere, the virtual ceremony featured performances by Tony Award winner and The politician star Ben Platt, as well as singer and activist Shea Diamond. The talented Chloe x Halle closed the show with a performance of “Do It” featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race students Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, Mayhem Miller and Naomi Smalls.

GLAAD’s Studio Accountability Index reports a record percentage of LGBTQ movies, but low racial diversity and no trans characters

The winners in select categories were revealed throughout the day via Twitter and featured acceptance speeches from each of the award winners. The innovator Pose canceled the ceremony as drama FX took home Best Drama Series award with Mj Rodriguez, Billy Porter, Dominique Jackson, Angelica Ross, Indya Moore, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Hailie Sahar, Angel Bismark Curiel and Dyllón Burnside accepting the honor.

The cast shared a few words about how the series not only rocked the television landscape but honored the LGBTQ community and the hub of black and Latino trans and queer people, without apologizing, allowing themselves to be their “own heroes.”
