Youth group replaces “monolith” in California with a cross – News

The mysterious metal “monolith” appeared on top of a mountain in California, just a week after a similar structure captured the world’s attention when it was discovered in the Utah desert and then disappeared.

The international press refers to the discovery as a “monolith”, a work or monument built on a stone, although the object is made of metal.

Now, says The Guardian, a group of young people, supposedly Christians, destroyed the object, replacing it with a cross.

The object, which attracted hundreds of curious tourists, was removed overnight. A video, posted online, shows the replacement by a wooden cross, as young people sing “Christ is the King.”

During the video, people make offensive comments and drink energy drinks, while referring to Donald Trump and the QAnon conspiracy theory.

The act is considered vandalism. “We are upset that these young people felt the need to drive five hours to enter our community and destroy the monolith,” Atascadero Mayor Heather Moreno said in a press release. “The monolith was something unique and fun in a stressful time,” he stressed.

So far, it is not known who was responsible for the installation in Utah, Romania or Atascadero and the theories soon spoke of aliens. Due to film associations, a spokesman for the Utah Film Commission said it did not know the origin of the object. “As far as we know, the monolith that was found in Utah is not from a movie production.”
