The Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (KTM) qualified this Saturday in twelfth position for the Doha MotoGP Grand Prix, second of the 19 races of the 2021 world speed motorcycle championship. The KTM rider was eleventh in the third free practice, so he was forced to go through the first qualifying round, Q1.

There, Miguel Oliveira was the second fastest, running in 1.54.220 minutes, just behind the champion of the title, the Spanish Joan Mir (Suzuki), moving to Q2. With temperatures dropping during twilight, the Portuguese again found it difficult to keep the tires at the ideal temperature, not beyond the record number 12, with the time of 1.55.096 minutes to 1.990 seconds of the Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati), who, in his debut year in MotoGP, achieved pole position.

With this result, Miguel Oliveira improved his position on the starting grid by three positions compared to the inaugural race of the championship, last Sunday, while Ducati maintains dominance on this circuit, placing four motorcycles in the first six places (corresponding to the first two) starting grid lines).

Martin claimed the first pole of his career in MotoGP with a private Ducati from the Pramac team. Next to him, in the first row of the grid, will be the French Johan Zarco (Ducati), who was at 157 milliseconds, and the Spanish Maverick Viñales (Yamaha), who closed the session in 161 milliseconds.

Also noteworthy is the 21st and penultimate position achieved by Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha).

The seven-time world champion will leave the back row of the grid for the second time in Qatar. The first occurred in 2004, due to a penalty.

Viñales starts for this second race of the season at the top of the championship, with 25 points, while Miguel Oliveira is 13th, with three.

The Doha Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday starting at 6 p.m. (Lisbon time), followed by the Portuguese Grand Prix, in Portimão, on April 18.
