UK records 674 more deaths, bringing the total to 26,711

The UK has recorded an additional 674 deaths from infected people in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the covid-19 pandemic to 26,711, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reported today.

6,032 new cases of contagion were also identified, bringing the total so far to 171,253, added Johnson, who said 15,043 people remain hospitalized, compared to 15,359 the previous day.

As of Wednesday, this balance has included deaths outside of hospitals, such as nursing homes or private homes.

Data on deaths was collected until 5pm yesterday, but the number of tests includes those conducted until 9am today.

To correct the data, the health authorities added more than 3,811 deaths registered since March 2, bringing the total to 26,097 registered, 765 of which in the last 24 hours.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 227,000 deaths and infected nearly 3.2 million people in 193 countries and territories.

About 908,000 patients were considered cured.
