The explanations that Maisfutebol did not ask questions at the Sérgio Conceição conference

THE More soccer He did not ask Sérgio Conceição any questions, in the post-match conference against Juventus, not by choice: he did not ask why it was not allowed. It is easy to imagine that something similar happened with other colleagues.

But let’s go in parts.

Starting at the beginning, it is important to note that as determined by UEFA, post-match press conferences in Turin would be virtual – there would be no journalists in the press room and everyone would have to connect via zoom.

In this sense, the More soccer accredited two journalists for Sérgio Conceição’s post-match conference and credited Vítor Maia, one of those accredited, with the responsibility of following up on the same day.

At the end of last week, an email with two links was sent to our newsroom, one for Pirlo’s pre-game conference and the other for Pirlo and Sérgio Conceição’s post-game conferences. By the way, it should be noted, the Porto coach did the pre-match conference while he was still at Olival, before traveling.

On Monday, after Pirlo gave the press conference, Juventus sent a new email to accredited journalists, recalling that post-match conferences would be via zoom and indicating the link for journalists to connect in the virtual match.

And here was the problem: the zoom link sent was the same as Pirlo’s pre-game lecture link. In other words, probably due to an unfortunate mistake, Juventus sent the link to the pre-game zoom to the Portuguese journalists and not the link to the post-game zoom.

The truth is that Vítor Maia tried to connect in the Sérgio Conceição conference, without success: the link sent in the second email from Juventus did not work. From that, the journalist from More soccer said in a message sent to FC Porto adviser Rui Cerqueira.

With no Portuguese journalists at the zoom meeting, and therefore no questions asked, Sérgio Conceição got up and left, naturally unsatisfied, but the truth is that the More soccer he is as oblivious to this situation as FC Porto: it was not by our will that we were not at the conference.

It should be noted that the responsibility for zoom connections belongs to the local club.

Also, this is not the first time problems have arisen with zoom lectures at international games. At Olympiakos-FC Porto, also in the Champions League, the zoom connection failed, journalists did not have access to the sound of Sérgio Conceição and Sérgio Conceição could not hear the journalists. Once again the situation was totally alien to FC Porto, as Olympiakos was in charge of the digital connections. At that moment, the situation went unnoticed because Porto Canal was in the room and asked the FC Porto coach questions.

It is already worth mentioning that the CNID (Association of Sports Journalists) contacted the Portuguese media this Wednesday – there were twelve accredited for the Sérgio Conceição conference – to understand what happened.

As a result of these contacts, and given the problems that the zoom connections have created, President Manuel Queiroz sent a challenge to UEFA expressing his concern about the limitations caused by following a competition as professional as the Champions League.
