At the age of 64, the technician spent six days in intensive care (ICU) and nine days in the intermediary of the São Bernardo Hospital, in Setúbal, where he was “always conscious” and the doctors never hid the extreme gravity of his situation.

António Pereira came to have the flow of oxygen in his blood at 34 years old, when “they say that after 40 or 50 he goes into a coma”, and the doctors even told his family to leave “preparing” for the worst, until, “fortunately, the body reacted” and the coach returned this week to guide the team’s training sessions on the south bank of the Tagus.
But before recovering, leaving the ICU and finally intermediate care, Toni Pereira literally saw life in front of his eyes and death beside him.

The nights in the infirmary and the tranquility they brought was also the moment when the “shield” of the man who, at 64 years of age, “had never entered a hospital” fell.
“I cried every day. I remembered all of this, but essentially my wife, my daughter, and my granddaughter.
