The PS of Vila Verde today accused the municipality, with a majority of the PSD, of “whistling aside” about the delay in the works that are being carried out in the municipality and that should have been completed “two years ago”.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the president of the Socialist Political Commission of that municipality in the Braga district, Samuel Estrada, questions whether “the inspection has been carried out by the municipality, in order to safeguard the municipal interest” and whether there are Penalty clauses for labor delays.
The Socialists refer to the requalification works of the Basic School of Vila Verde, the rehabilitation of the old Adega and the requalification of the Basic School of Prado.
“The executive needs to act immediately. We are talking about works that have cost millions of euros to the coffers of an indebted municipality. Public money is at stake, so the executive cannot simply whistle aside and pretend that nothing is happening, ”it reads.
For the PS, the “most worrying” case is the requalification of the Vila de Prado Basic School, which will cost 1,457,705.43 euros to the municipality and whose completion period was scheduled for April 2019: “Adding to the delay, the work has presented numerous deficiencies that have been communicated by the school community ”, says the text.
“The existence of a single bathroom for about 439 students, classrooms that show signs of wear, the computer room with a single outlet for each job, the absence of a cover at the main entrance of the Prado Basic School and a sports hall that has leaks in the changing rooms, lack of glass and cracks in the new wooden floor, which has prevented classes in that place for a year ”, he lists.
Regarding the requalification of the Vila Verde Basic School, the PS explains that this work has budgeted a cost of 1,321,620.00 euros and had the deadline of April 2019: “We know that the work is about to end, however, it is to regret the delay of almost two years ”, he points out.
The requalification of the old Adega is already estimated at 2,387,887.78 euros and should be completed in May 2019. “This work was abandoned for many months, now feeling some indications, although timid, of the presence of the contractor in that space . We do not understand or accept that a project that cost the municipality so much money takes almost 2 years, ”says the PS of Vila Verde.
The Socialist Political Commission points out “electoral temptations” to the executive “which, it says,” tends to delay all the work for the electoral year (an objective that seems to have been achieved) even though this implies a sacrifice for the lives of the villagers and for the municipality that it continues to be managed in an open bar logic ”.
Lusa tried to obtain a reaction from the executive to these accusations, but has not received a response so far.
