Shortly after winning the Best Player of the Year award, Robert Lewandowski was interviewed by former French international Thierry Henry. And the Pole had no doubts in confessing to the former Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal and Barcelona player that he is one of his idols.
«When I was younger I liked to see your style, your movement without the ball. I wanted to be like you, score goals like you. I know we cannot compare players, we are not the same players, but I wanted to take something from the best players in the world and try to do the same, with the same technique, something like that. You helped me a lot, I have to thank you, “said Bayern Munich jersey number 9, who shared the characteristics that he values most in a forward, as well as his weaknesses:
“I worked on my left foot, the header, the ability to protect the ball and everything that a jersey 9 needs to be the best. I know it is very difficult, there are players who only score with the right foot, or only protect the ball, but for me it was important to be able to do all that.
The Pole highlighted the perfect year for Bayern Munich, who won the German championship, the German Cup and the Champions League in the first half, then won the German and European Super Cups. So many trophies that
Henry even got lost in the accounts: “Six trophies in a year?” But Lewandowski showed that he is already thinking about the next achievement: “And in February we can win the Club World Cup …”
Lewandowski also spoke of the importance of being the first Polish player chosen as the best in the world: “It doesn’t matter what we saw, but where we are now. I am very proud of my place of origin, I am proud to be able to show the young players in Poland that if they believe, they can dream. I’m happy about that.”
