Her name is Ellie, she is 21 years old and speaks all over the world after starring in the documentary ‘Born Different’ (in Portuguese, ‘Born Different’), by AfrimaxTV. This 21-year-old lives in Rwanda and is being dubbed the real-life Mogli.

In the video, Ellie’s mother is devastated by the other children in the village who bully her son, calling him “monkey” and “ape”. Ellie does not speak, refuses to eat the food that her mother prepares for her and prefers to eat plants and fruits from trees. “He doesn’t like prepared food, he prefers to eat bananas. He doesn’t know anything, he can’t do anything,” laments the mother, who asks for help to improve the family’s living conditions and for Ellie to have the support she needs.

The young ‘Mogli’ spends the day in the forest, among the animals and loves to run. “Run like Usain Bolt! Get to 230 kilometers in a week,” says Ellie’s mother, who is often forced to tie her son up with a rope so that he doesn’t get lost in the vegetation.

Ellie is described by her mother in the documentary as “a miracle, a gift from God.” The boy’s parents lost five children at birth. Ellie was the sixth, born with an unidentified disability (and with a head the size of a tennis ball), but her parents love her no less. “As soon as I had it, we knew it was a message from God to us, of hope,” he says.

The documentary makers ask for donations from this family, so that Ellie is accompanied by doctors, and also so that the villagers, especially the children who make fun of the young man, can be educated to accept Ellie’s differences.
