“The death of someone is always something that touches us, but in this case losing a partner of many years, after a long walk, is something very difficult, especially when talking about someone as good as Vítor”, Fernando began. Saints.

The national coach remembers the failed coach as “a family man, with a lot of passion for his land, and who liked many of his friends”, recalling that there was no word between them when they had to face each other on the field.

“There was no rivalry. We had a lot to do with each other. When I went to FC Porto it was one of my main companies, every week we had dinner, we stayed together and one day we will meet there,” concluded Fernando Santos with emotion. .

This feeling of companionship was also shared by several professional colleagues who were present at the event, among them José Mota, who recalled the “posture and dignity with which Vítor Oliveira exercised his profession.”

“We talked about what he built and the titles he won, but that is insignificant in the face of the man he was on this trip. Whoever deprived him, realizes and misses what he will do. In my case, he was the person who most marked me in football, “said the coach.

Vítor Oliveira also left an indelible mark on his pupils, and several of his former players also wanted to be present at the last farewell, among which is the goalkeeper Beto, currently in Leixões, who speaks of the coach as “a father”. in football “.

“He leaves a legacy of truth and coherence in football, of frankness, honesty and credibility. There are values ​​that have been lost and he kept them alive. It is my obligation to pass on this legacy that he left. He will always be a very important person and That it will always remain in my heart, “said the Portuguese international.

Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football League, also highlighted the example that Vítor Oliveira sets for future generations, lamenting a year of many defeats in sport.

“He is a man who undoubtedly marks the past and present of professional football. Much more than the death of a great coach, the death of a great man. It is a moment of reflection, of joining in communion and knowing that these are extraordinary losses for Portuguese football, ”said the coach.

Among the many friends of Vítor Oliveira who wanted to accompany the coach’s last trip, were representatives of clubs such as Leixões, Gil Vicente, Chaves, Arouca, Paços de Ferreira, among others, such as Fernando Gomes, administrator and former player of FC Porto.
