The Portuguese rider placed fifth at the Riviera Grand Prix in Rimini.
Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) moved up two places this Sunday in the MotoGP World Championship, after finishing fifth in the Emilia Romana and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, the second best result of the season.
The Portuguese rider, who started this seventh round of the World Championship from 15th position and finished 12th after the first lap, finished 7.368 seconds behind the winner, the Spanish Maverick Viñales (Yamaha), who took 41.55.846 minutes.
The Spanish Jon Mir (Suzuki), at 2,425 seconds, and Pol Espargaró (KTM), at 4,528 seconds, were second and third, respectively.
“Starting from the fifth row on the grid was not ideal, but I managed to regain some positions, benefit from some crashes, do a constant race, without errors. Fifth position is very important for the championship and brings a lot of motivation ”, stressed Miguel Oliveira. who is now eighth, with 59 points, one more than the Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha), who gave up due to a fall.
Miguel Oliveira classified as one of the fastest in the race.
“We did a faster race than last week and finished closer to the first,” said the Portuguese, who said he was “motivated to go to Barcelona”, where the next test will be held on Sunday and where he thinks there may be “a good weekend”.
Championship competitiveness is high, with the top four drivers separated by just four points.
Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), who was only eighth this Sunday, leads with 84 points and is at a distance (a maximum of 25 points) of Miguel Oliveira. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who cut the goal in third place, but was relegated to fourth place, due to a three-second penalty for twice exceeding the limits of the track, is second, with 83 points.
The race was also marked by the crash of Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), seven laps from the end, as he led the way and headed for his first premier class victory.
In this way, the “toast” smiled at Viñales, who became the sixth different driver to win in the seven races contested (only Quartararo repeated the victory) and matched the 66 podiums, in all categories, achieved by his compatriot Alex Crivillé.
