The Serbian tennis player was disqualified from the US Open after hitting a linesman with the ball.

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, world number one, apologized for his behavior at the US Open, which earned him disqualification in the round of 16 match with Spanish Pablo Carreña-Busta.

“I apologize to the US Open and everyone who was affected by my behavior,” wrote Djokovic, on his official Instagram account, adding that “this whole situation” has left him “sad and empty.”

The first seed explained that he had already found out about the situation of the linesman who hit with a ball, after suffering a break and losing 6-5 in the first set, being satisfied with what he heard.

“Thank God, he is fine,” continued the Serbian, appearing “extremely desolate” for having caused “great stress”, while guaranteeing that it was an action “so involuntary”, but also “so wrong.”

Regarding the disqualification, Djokovic said that he needs to “do an introspection and work on this disappointment”, so that this situation “serves as a lesson” for his “growth as a player and as a human being.”
