The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, greeted the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, on Tuesday, declaring himself willing to work with the future US administration in the “alliance” between the two countries.
“Greetings to President @JoeBiden, with my best wishes and hope that the United States continues to be the land of the free and the home of the brave,” Bolsonaro wrote on the social network Twitter, playing the last stanza of the American anthem.
“I will be willing to work with the new government and continue to build a Brazil-United States alliance, in defense of sovereignty, democracy and freedom in the world, as well as economic and social integration for the benefit of our peoples,” he added .
Bolsonaro was the last president among the world’s major economies to congratulate Biden, even behind Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
Declared an admirer of the outgoing US President Donald Trump, defeated by Biden in November, Bolsonaro has delayed until the maximum to acknowledge the defeat of his main ally in the world.
Bolsonaro’s recognition of the US election result came a day after the Electoral College of the United States of America confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.
