Belgian families can get together at Christmas, but only one person can go to the bathroom

The measures apply to groups of four Belgians and only to those with garden houses.

Tighter measures this Christmas

While here we wait until next Saturday, December 5, to find out what measures the government will impose for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, there are already rules out there – and some seem strange.

This is the case in Belgium, where although families can hold small meetings, they can only be organized by those who have a garden or terrace with access to the street. Furthermore, only four guests can join and only one of them, chosen by the owners of the house, can use the bathroom.

These were the measures announced by the Interior Minister, Annelies Verlinden, who explained that “if someone wants to go to the bathroom, they will have to do it in their own accommodation.”

To these measures are added some curious details, such as the prohibition of exchanging food between relatives and the need to maintain hygiene standards and safety distance. Although it is possible to enter the house and stop to drink or eat, the Belgian authorities warn of the increased danger of closed spaces where the air circulates less.

After being closed for a month, Belgian stores began to reopen this Monday, November 30. On the other hand, the spaces for culture, sports and hairdressing remain closed.
