A funny face or a less presentable posture are reason enough to ignore a photograph: “Take another!” Says the portrait immediately. Animals are not so lucky and there is a contest that gives relief and space to this more comical side of wildlife. The finalists for the 2020 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards are already known and display the badge unsuspecting.
An elephant “falling from its trunk”, a monkey in the middle of a bath or a squirrel singing in the wind portray the weaknesses and the more human side of animals. And if on the one hand we almost see a serene sea lion practicing yoga, on the other hand we are already listening to an argument between a desert fox and a little mouse, subtitled as “complicated negotiations”.
Any scenario is imaginable from these photographs. Taken out of context, they are given a story that only makes sense in the human world. Combining humor with a cause, the Comedy contest emerged in 2005. Wildlife Photography Awards. The objective is to alert the population about the importance of preserving wildlife. Winners are announced on October 22, 2020.
