Yesterday, the Cuban Handball Federation sent a message of condolences to the family of Alfredo Quintana, 32, a goalkeeper for FC Porto and the National Team, who has been in intensive care at the São João Hospital since Monday, after a cardiorespiratory arrest during a training session by the Porto team.

«The Cuban Handball Federation regrets the death of Alfredo Quintana, an excellent athlete trained in the country and who, despite competing for another nation, never lost his Cuban status. To our family, friends and relatives of the world handball, our condolences, “said the general secretary of the organization, Raymel Reyes Collante, quoted by SportHD News.

In reaction, the Portuguese Handball Federation recalled that there was no confirmation in this regard and asked “respect for the family of Alfredo Quintana”, adding that the official source of any development will be FC Porto. The São João Hospital does not make the death official either, only knowing that yesterday Quintana remained in intensive care in a very serious condition and with a very poor prognosis.
