Do you have this phone model? Get ready to go without WhatsApp already in January – O Jornal Económico

The new application promoted by WhatsApp, a messaging application owned by Facebook, will cause millions of users to lose access to the service. IPhones and Androids that have an operating system equal to or less than iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 will no longer be able to support one of the most popular messaging services in the world, according to “The Independent.”

This means that all iPhone models up to iPhone 4 will not be compatible with WhatsApp as these smartphones can no longer update the current operating system to iOS 9. Still, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, 6 and iPhone 6S were all released prior to iOS 9 and they will be able to upgrade to the latest operating system if they haven’t already, and they can continue to use WhatsApp.

Android phones that will lose WhatsApp support include the Samsung Galaxy S2, the HTC Desire, and the LG Optimus Black.

The majority of the two billion WhatsApp users worldwide will not be affected by the change, although the “small” fraction ends up affecting millions of people around the world. In 2020, a similar update saw WhatsApp making the “difficult decision” to end support for even older smartphones.

Additionally, the messaging giant will also update its Terms of Service next year, forcing users to agree to the new privacy rules to continue using the app.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp confirmed to “The Independent” that all users “must agree” to the new terms by February 8, 2021 or they will lose access to their conversations on the app.
