It happened in the US state of Wisconsin. days before Christmas … and it ended up being news. A man risked crossing a frozen lake to save a deer that was immobilized on it, unable to get up. Due to the size and weight of the animal, the benefactor had no choice but to slide it aside.
Gil Lencour told several local media outlets that he was returning home to the town of Cranmoor, Wood County, when he noticed the deer downed and motionless in the middle of the lake.
Despite the immediate bold instinct to save the animal, Lencour was not careless and went looking for a friend, John Moss, to help him. The result was the recording of the rescue in a video that is being broadcast around the world and that was the subject of a report on various news channels, specifically on WMTV and WKYC, affiliates of NBC, being available on YouTube.
Lencour said he went to the house to get his dog’s leash with the idea of taking the animal to the bank. But when he approached the deer, his agitation was such that attaching the leash proved ineffective.
While trying to calm him down, Lencour says he noticed the animal slip when fighting. It was then that he came up with the idea to “skate” in partner mode.
Placing his hands on the animal’s back, the “skater-savior” stepped forward and slid it to shore. As soon as it felt solid ground, the deer got up and fled.
For the deer, this was a Christmas story with a happy ending.
