This morning, O GOGO lost one of its most solid pillars and a bit of its soul: the journalist Carlos Machado, historical editor of the story, the oldest member of this family and the father and fraternal figure of many generations of reporters, including the current Director, passed away. . He died at home, suddenly, just a few hours after closing another edition with the care of those who dedicated more than half of their lives to a newspaper, which only for a very short time did not see birth.
Carlos Machado would turn 59 on December 28. Always a journalist, he worked in Comércio do Porto, Diário de Notícias, Capital and Norte Desportivo, before deciding on “O GOGO”, whose editorial staff he directed for more than two decades, always with the same serene, calm and polite tone.
In O GOGO he lived all the steps of a complete career. He lived hand in hand with several of the great figures who marked, above all, the football of the 80s and 90s. He was a character of those times, as much as they. Several times, his prodigious memory helped fill the unprotected baggage of his colleagues with stories he knew how to tell, some of them secret. He covered the World Cup “2006 and the Euro Cup” 2008, among many competitions, but ended up being on the bench and in the leadership of his teammates who left their invisible, anonymous and sometimes ungrateful work, which changed this group of people forever , from journalists to secretariat, from graphics to technicians. For THE GAME Management, it was a third element in its own right and an irreplaceable source of wisdom.
