This Wednesday a new controversy arose after the events of PSG-Basaksehir, suspended for alleged racist behavior by the fourth official towards Pierre Webo, assistant coach of the Turkish team.

A Romanian journalist reported that a member of Basaksehir called the Romanian referees “gypsies”, based on a video of the players Mehmet Topal and Mahmut Tekdemir talking to the referee. However, the French newspaper L’Équipe now claims that such a statement was a moral lesson and not an insult.

“In my country, Romanians are gypsies,” a member of the Turkish club had said. However, and based on the same video, the French sports newspaper states that behind that phrase there was a “But I can’t say [ciganos]Being, therefore, a demonstration and, at the same time, a request for respect.
