The new Metro do Porto line will connect Casa da Música, in Porto, and Santo Ovídio, in Gaia.

On February 1, the international public tender for the construction of a new bridge in the Duero will be launched. The Minister of Environment and Climate Action, João Matos Fernandes, indicated on Tuesday what day the first step will be taken for the new Metro do Porto line, which will connect the Casa da Música with Santo Ovídio.

“On February 1 we want to launch the new international public tender for a new bridge over the Duero”, said the minister during a debate organized by the Order of Engineers.

At the end of September, Matos Fernandes had already told JN that “at the beginning of next year” a “great international tender” would be launched for the new bridge over the Douro in the city of Porto.

“In such a symbolic river front and with so much heritage wealth, the new bridge has to be a great project discussed by the cities and evaluated by a highly qualified jury. I think we will have the best bridge engineers in the world competing to make this bridge. It will only be for the subway and much less for bicycles and pedestrians. It will never be a road bridge, “explained, at that time, the governor, who supervises the metropolitans of Lisbon and Porto.

The new bridge will be between the Luís I and Arrábida bridges. Although there is still no defined route, the new metro line between Porto and Gaia will serve the Devesas train station and serve as an alternative to General Torres. The new line will be part of the PNI 2030 national investment program.
