Covid rooms may increase the number, but will affect other services. Unity requires that people meet the standards.

The Hospital and University Center of Coimbra (CHUC) is reaching the limit of beds in the infirmary for hospitalization with covid-19. Of the 90 available beds, 83 are occupied. It is possible that the hospital will increase its number in the ward, but without other services. “The 90 beds are provided for in the Contingency Plan up to level five. We have more, but that could affect other non-covid services ”, explained to JN, source of CHUC.

The same source recalls that CHUC is “an end-of-line hospital”, which means that it has many patients who do not suffer from covid. “We must guarantee support and care for all our patients, without prejudice between us,” he says. The transfer of patients to other units in the region is out of the question, especially since they are all going through a similar situation. “It is not just a problem with CHUC, it is a problem for the country and the world,” he says.
