Rio Ave confirmed this afternoon the signing of Fábio Coentrão for one season, this being the return of another player to the Vila do Conde club, the fourth time.
Last season the left wing was without a club, but in the previous season, 2018/19 it represented Rio Ave.
Hired by Benfica at the club in 2006/07, he would return on loan in 2008/09.
The club reported the return in a statement:
«The 32-year-old defender, identified from his birth with the values that are the essence of the Caxine and Vilacondense soul, reinforces the left wing of the Rio de Janeiro defense, adding even more quality to Mário Silva’s squad for the 2020/2021 season. This is already Coentrão’s fourth visit to Rio Ave FC, where he finished his training, was loaned by SL Benfica in 2008/2009, returned in 18/19 and continues now in 20/21, after a season of interregnum .
With a history that speaks for itself (national champion, champion of Spain, winner of a European super cup, two league champions and two-time champion of the Club World Cup), Fábio Coentrão brings the experience, dedication and competitiveness that is recognized when he wears the green and white sweater.
The Portuguese international defender, with a career at SL Benfica, Nacional, Zaragoza, Real Madrid, Monaco and Sporting, trained on Tuesday with his new teammates, after signing a contract valid for one season.
