Paulo Pinheiro, administrator of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, with great hopes in Miguel Oliveira.

The administrator of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), Paulo Pinheiro, believes that the Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) can reach the last race of the MotoGP season, precisely at the Algarve circuit, “in the fight for the title “.

In an interview with the Lusa agency, Paulo Pinheiro emphasizes that the victory achieved by the Portuguese in the previous round, in Austria, “was the icing on the cake.”

“Miguel’s victory is a reward for him and for all of us. Better is impossible. He had an extraordinary career, it was the icing on the cake. And it served to take pressure off him,” said Paulo Pinheiro.

The AIA administrator sees the Almada pilot as “a different person since he won”, confessing to being “very happy for him”.

“It is also good for us because it is impossible to think of a better aperitif than having a race here in the year that he is winning. He deserves more than anyone,” highlights Paulo Pinheiro, who believes “seriously” that Miguel Oliveira can reach the Algarve in the title dispute.

The Algarve circuit hosts the final round of the revised championship due to the covid-19 pandemic, on November 22.

Before that, in October, the MotoGP teams will go to the AIA for a test session, with their test riders.

Knowledge of the track may be a “small advantage” for the Portuguese rider, but one that, in the opinion of the Portimão circuit administrator, will vanish “after the first free practice”.

“When you get to the race on Sunday, everyone is already on the same level. Whatever you do, it will be fantastic,” says Paulo Pinheiro.

The MotoGP race will have a slightly different setup than that of Formula 1, which will take place on October 25.

“MotoGP does the short version of the Vip Tower curve, as in Superbikes, while F1 falls below the hook,” explained the same manager.

As for the circuit, the administrator explains that “it has slow corners, fast corners, very fast corners and a great section always accelerating from turn 14 to the end of the finish line.”

For Formula 1, “the track has several versions, which allows the cars to be maximized in various zones. The circuit configuration will be the fast version at the end of the finish line and the fast version at the entrance. lap will be around 1 minute and 14 seconds ”, he revealed to Lusa.

According to the simulations carried out, “there are three points of overtaking, at the end of the finish line, at the end of the inside line and on the curve of Portimão”, concluded Paulo Pinheiro.

This year, the AIA will host the Formula World Championship (October 25) and the MotoGP World Championship (November 22).
