The Portuguese driver noted as positive qualifying “one row ahead” for the Doha Grand Prix.

Miguel Oliveira (KTM) pointed out this Saturday as positive to classify “one row ahead” for the Doha Grand Prix on Sunday, than in the first race of the MotoGP World Championship.

After a week starting from position 15 of the opening round of the World Championship of speed motorcycling, today, at the same Losail circuit, in Qatar, Miguel Oliveira secured the passage to the second stage of the classification (Q2) and to position 12 in the network.

“[Estou] I’m happy to go to Q2, but we couldn’t get much of it. We tried to use the second bike, with a different setting but it was not the right one, so the bike was a little worse, “explained the Almada rider at a press conference.

Miguel Oliveira explained that the front tire “vibrated, on the right side, which is disappointing”, especially since he had to “use that tire during Q2”.

“We could not match our best qualifying time,” Oliveira said, admitting that he was looking to “take advantage” of the improvement over the previous qualifying “to regain more positions at the start of the race.”

Once again, the main complaint from drivers is related to the different behaviors of the tires.

“They were performing differently this weekend. For some reason, we had more preheated tires, just like the other drivers, but they have different behaviors between them. That doesn’t allow us to go fast. Today, the grip was even less than yesterday [na sexta-feira]”, highlighted the KTM rider, thirteenth in the championship, with three points.

So for Sunday’s race, he just hopes to “get to the finish and shoot as much as possible.”

The third stage of the World Championship will be the Portuguese Grand Prix, in Portimão, on April 18, when the tires available to the drivers will be similar to those used in Qatar. Something that, for the moment, does not concern the Portuguese rider.

“These tires are working at such specific times and temperatures. Maybe we’ll get to Portimão and it will work. We have to find a way to be fast on the softer compounds. After nine days, it’s exhausting thinking about it so much.” . It’s frustrating, “he ventured.

The arrival of the championship in Europe coincides with a uniform schedule of training and races, in the middle of the day and not at night, as in the desert of Qatar, where the Losail circuit is installed.

A difference that Miguel Oliveira hopes will help overcome the difficulties to make better use of the tires.

“I hope it is solved. But it is not a problem, because we have a very competitive grid. The riders who were in Q1 are not exactly rudimentary. But I hope that, in Europe, the tires can be adapted more to our bike and ours. . pilotagem, “said the Portuguese.

In an outburst, Miguel Oliveira said: “I really need to have fun tomorrow [no domingo]”.

This Saturday, the Portuguese rider took 12th place on the starting grid of the Doha GP, the second race of the MotoGP World Championship, which will be held on Sunday at the Losail circuit in Qatar.

The Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati) achieved the first pole position of his career in the premier class, in his debut year.
