Portland endured another night of violence and vandalism on Monday, after the largest crowd in weeks stormed the streets for the 53rd day of protests.
The massive crowd included mothers dressed in yellow and fathers dressed in orange, who marched with protesters to the Multnomah County Justice Center and created a human shield to protect them against the police, KOIN reported.
The video taken by a KOIN reporter shows parents and protesters holding hands as they march slowly down the street.
The moms, part of a group called “Moms Wall”, were also present on Saturday and Sunday.
But as the night wore on, the protests turned into another night of clashes between protesters and federal officials, who were recently deployed in the city by President Trump.
The protesters set fire to the trash cans and broke through the plywood that the federal court was protecting to break the windows, according to Portland police. The windows of the town hall building were also destroyed and a jewelry store was looted on SW 3rd Avenue.
No arrests were made, police said.
Videos released by a KOIN reporter show federal officials shooting pepper spray and tear gas canisters at protesters and then attacking a crowd near the court.
Portland has been a turning point in the national movement for racial equality following the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in late May.
Protesters set fire to the Portland Police Union headquarters on Saturday, and officials declared a riot.
Last week, Oregon officials said they planned to sue the Trump administration for sending federal officials to the city.
