Portland Police Warn Large Audience Amid Damage to Window of Police Union Building: Report

Police in Portland urged a crowd of about 200 people who had been inside the Portland Police Association (PPA) building Monday morning to leave and try to stop to damage the property.

Authorities ruled that people near the PPA building on North Lombard Street – from the city – which has been repeatedly targeted with vandalism and fire – “may be trying to force an entrance into the building.” “

“Failure to comply with this order may result in the use of agents for crowd control, including, but not limited to, tear and / or impact weapons,” police said.

The organized demonstration had left a local park at 10 a.m. before a crowd of 100 people marched on the building, while declaring the need for justice. Video taken of the parade saw many everyone singing that if they did not get justice, they would “burn it!” a reporter with KOIN of Portland tweeted.

When the group arrived at the building, it had grown to about 200 people. Protest cars blocked traffic on Lombard Street as music and speeches blew across a loudspeaker during the 82nd night of unrest in the city. Others began spraying the plywood surrounding the PPA building.

A few people would break off the crowd and smash a small window near the back of the building, and at least one person tried to enter, according to the station.

Video taken of the building in the city’s North Lombard Street revealed evidence that a window had been damaged, KOIN reported. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Just before 11 a.m., protesters were ordered to move so officers could check the damage.

When the warning was issued, about two dozen officers arrived and formed a line at the side entrance of the building. When officers later returned, someone in the crowd threw a bottle at police, who responded by releasing smoke and firing peppercorns, according to The Oregonian.

Letha Winston, the mother of a 27-year-old man who was killed by police after shooting and wounding two others in the run in 2018, suggested that standing round was not enough to make a difference. They urge Protestants to march through the city’s residential neighborhoods instead of gathering outside the PPA building, the paper reported.
