“Portland Fire & Rescue treated two Portland police officers injured by rocks thrown by individuals in the crowd. Both went to the hospital for further treatment,” the PPB statement said. Police said one rock weighed 9.5 pounds and was struck by a person among a group of people with the word “press” on their clothing.
According to the PPB, protesters gathered Saturday night outside the Penumbra Kelly Building, a facility used by Multnomah’s Office of Sheriff’s Office.
The quarrel between police and Protestants continued into the night. Protesters threw rocks, frozen eggs and glass bottles, the PPB statement said, with officers sitting on the ground. Protesters also fired lasers at officers and were trespassing on the property, police said. In one case, a security camera was spray-painted.
Officers ordered protesters to disperse at midnight and began making arrests. According to police, protesters – some of whom were hidden among individuals with “press” written on their clothes – continued to throw rocks and bottles at police and their cars.
It was only until 3 o’clock in the morning when the audience was dispersed. PPB said it would release details of arrests later Sunday.
Shots reported fired during earlier demonstration
KOIN reported that Patriot was praying for the Justice Center in downtown Portland. Some members told KOIN that they were protesting against anti-fascists, often known as Antifa; others said they rallied to support police. According to KOIN, some attendees were carrying firearms.
Black Lives Matter counterattacks raged across the street, the station reported.
The PPB statement said the groups “apparently used weapons against each other”, such as paintball guns, mice or bear rifles. At least one person was injured when they hit a paintball in the face.
At one point, the groups confronted each other, PPB said. “During that confrontation, a person allegedly fired a gun,” the statement said.
“Anyone who has been a victim of a crime is encouraged to call the police to report the crime,” it said.
