Pope Francis urges countries to share Covid-19 vaccine in Christmas message

The pope also attended a mass on the eve of Christmas at the back of St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday.

Only 200 people, including 30 cardinals, were present due to the Covid-19 ban.

There is a landmark event in the mass Vatican City on Christmas Eve. According to Reuters, it is usually housed in the main part of the basilica, and usually attracts 10,000 people.

All but the pop and singer-songwriters wore masks and the event ended earlier than usual so people could return home before the nationwide curfew at 10 a.m. in Italy.

This year the Pope emphasized the importance of helping the needy and humbly stated that Jesus was born out.

“The Son of God was born an outcast, to tell us that every outcast is a child of God,” he said.

Friday’s blessing concludes a muted year for the Pope, whose activities have been drastically reduced by the epidemic.

He caught the audience on his regular Wednesdays from March to September and celebrated Palm Sunday Mass in an empty church in the spring.

Italy was one of the worst affected countries in Europe during the first wave of Covid-19. To avoid a third wave, the country’s government has implemented stricter levels of its Covid-19 measures across the country over the Christmas and New Year period.
