Fifty-three percent of voters registered in the July 24-26 poll approve of the president’s job in the economy, down 1 percentage point from the previous poll conducted July 7-10.

Similarly, 54 percent of voters in the poll said they approved of how Trump is working to create jobs.

The poll found that the president’s numbers on the economy and jobs have steadily declined over time since the blockades began to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a poll from March 8 to 9, approximately 59 percent of voters approved of their handling of the economy and employment.

The survey is released as the severity of the coronavirus pandemic in the economy becomes clearer.

The Commerce Department reported Thursday that the economy slowed to an annual rate of 32.9 percent in the second quarter, a record amount.

New unemployment numbers from the Labor Department also found that initial jobless claims increased for the second consecutive week.

The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,842 registered voters July 24-26. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.84 percentage points.
