Forty-two percent of registered voters in the July 7-10 poll say they approve of Trump’s job at COVID-19, while 58 percent say they disapprove, an increase of 1 percentage point from the survey from June 22 to 23.

The record low approval comes as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country.

The poll found increasingly negative views among Republican and independent voters.

The number of Republican voters who said they approved of the COVID-19 president’s handling fell from a peak of 86 percent in March to 76 percent in the July 7-10 poll.

The number of independent voters approving of Trump’s work on the coronavirus fell from a peak of 55 percent in March to 40 percent in this latest poll.

“When a quarter of your own party does not approve of the way you handle a problem, it really suggests that there is a challenge for you,” John Sides, professor of political science at Vanderbilt University, told Hill.TV.

“You have lost people who would otherwise approve or rationalize any potential deficiencies,” added Sides.

The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,841 registered voters July 7-10. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.9 percentage points.
