Police officer killed near Seattle

The Bothell Police Department announced in a Twitter post early Tuesday that the suspect was detained after hiding on a rooftop near the scene of the shooting.

Two officers were shot in the incident that started Monday night with Bothell police trying to stop traffic, according to Aaron Snell with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.

CNN affiliate KOMO reported that the suspect fled from officers before hitting a man on a scooter and crashing his vehicle. Shots were exchanged and the suspect fled on foot, KOMO reported.

“When other officers came to help, they unfortunately found that one officer had died and another was seriously injured,” said Snell.

The injured officer was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment, Snell said. Bothell is about 16 miles northeast of Seattle.

The officer was treated and released Tuesday morning while the person riding the scooter remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg told KOMO.
