Police Nab Will-Bay Bank Robbers in San Jose, Bomb Squad Answers – NBC Bay Area



Police arrested a bank robber in West San Jose on Saturday morning and called the bomb squad to investigate the suspicious device left behind by the robber, according to the police department.

At about 9:35 a.m., officers responded to the Chase Bank branch in the 1700 block of Saratoga Avenue near Westgate and El Paso de Saratoga Shopping Centers, police said on reports of a robbery.

Witnesses reported on social media that the robber was armed, but police did not immediately confirm that it was an armed robbery attempt.

One suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and no injuries were reported, police said.

The SJPD’s bomb squad responded to the scene to investigate the suspicious device which was left in the suspicious device bank, police said. The bank was safely emptied, and the device was later safely rendered.

The bank is in one of the busiest areas of the city, with two large shopping centers and many popular rest restaurant rentals at the intersection of three main corridors: Saratoga Avenue, Law Rains Expressway and Prospect Road / Campbell Avenue.
