Police said in a release that their Organized Crime Investigations Squad and members of the Task Force on Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) attempted to stop a car with three subjects from an ongoing crime investigation over 4:20 p.m. Friday. The suspects eventually fled and crossed the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, in Newport, Kentucky.
According to the release, the suspect car then lost control and hit four bystanders. Two died, and two more were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspects sustained minor injuries and are being held by authorities, Isaac said.
Witness Steve Caminiti told the station, “A car came flying – probably 90 mph – it just missed me by maybe centimeters.”
Caminiti said the suspected driver fired a car at the intersection before losing control.
“Crash in the building. There were some people just sitting by … just in their teams,” he said.
