Police involved in shooting in Wisconsin demand violent protest: report

Crowds gathered late Sunday in Kenosha, Wisc., After a Black man was shot several times in the back in a police-involved shooting and is in a serious condition in a nearby hospital.

Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, issued a statement Sunday saying Jacob Blake was shot in broad daylight. He said his office did not have all the details about the shooting.

“What we know for sure is that he is not the first Black man or person who has been shot or wounded or suspected of murder at the hands of law enforcement personnel in our state as our country,” he said.

Kenosha is the latest city to see unrest amid widespread protests after George Floyd was detained by police in May.

Evers has promised that there will be accountability.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that police were dispatched on a call of domestic violence at about 5 p.m. before the shooting. The report said officials supported Blake, who was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Julian Castro, the former presidency of Democrat 2020, with hope, retweeted an alleged video of the shooting that showed officers shouting at Blake as he tried to drive an SUV and get into a driver ‘s side seat. One of the officers appears to be holding Blake by his shirt and open fire.

“Police in Kenosha, Wisconsin seem to be shooting a man in the back seven times at low range after ignoring the orders,” Castro tweeted. “We are not (sp) considering any other non-lethal methods, @KenoshaPolice?”

The Journal-Sentinel reported that a large crowd appeared on the scene and small fires were set in the street. One video was intended to show a police officer being stabbed during a protest. One person could be heard saying, “He was bricked.”

Marchers also went to the Kenosha County Public Safety Building, which authorities had mostly burned down. Protesters marched past cars on the way to the station and eventually made their way to the back parking lot. A man could be seen breaking the window of a patrol car parked along the street. Some police officers were placed on the roof of the station as people drove through to the building.

Outside the station, protesters lined up officers dressed in riot gear, wearing plastic face masks and holding plastic shields and batons that they sometimes used to send people back.

The police department issued a statement confirming the shooting and said the sheriff’s department and Wisconsin State Patrol have taken over the scene. The State Department of Justice and its Department of Criminal Justice will investigate the shooting.
