The Pokemon community became frustrated after a player lost his 700+ hour save from Sword & Shield after she was allegedly robbed on the London Underground. The Trainer’s heartbreaking story sparked a debate over the Gen VIII title that has no preserved leaves.
The Pokemon series made its eighth generation debut with the release of Sword & Shield in 2019. The Nintendo Switch title introduced players to the Galar region, and included new mechanics such as Dynamaxing and Max Raids.
However, one element that the RPG lacks is cloud storage – when saving online backup files. Fans were overwhelmed by the missing feature on August 22 when a player explained that they had lost more than 700 hours in the release of Gen VIII after being robbed on the train.
The story of Pokemon players raises concerns about cloud savings
While many fans were initially angry that Sword & Shield had scrapped the national Pokedex, the Gen VIII RPG generally won a lot after its release. On August 22, however, one of the missing features became a topic for discussion after a player’s story went viral on Reddit.
‘TheFoolMan’ recounted their tragic experience, detailing how they were mugged while riding the train. “When I drove home with the tube, I was robbed. My bag [was] sniffed me violently with my switch inwards. I came home and was a wreck. “
The player declared that they were financially sound, however, losing their 700+ hours in Pokemon Shield that hurt. “I was robbed, everything was replaceable except my time in that game. Everything I built and strived for. Everything is gone because Pokemon Shield does not support cloud storage,” they said.
Unfortunately, the Trainer even lost ‘mons of special events’ that you can no longer get. “Event mews from gen 6. Shiny legendaries, including the most recent Zeroara event. Even many of my old Pokemon that I have trained with since 4. and had with me.”
They later posted an update, saying they had reported the robbery to the police. Although the player said they were not very hopeful, they would get their Switch back. The horrific incident put a foothold on the Gen VIII release without having backups of cloud.
Many fans were furious, and exclaimed at Nintendo and Game Freak for not allowing the feature in the RPG yet in 2020. User ‘zooksmz’ shouted, ‘Having no cloud storage support in 2020 is f ** king ridiculous . “WaffleyDootDoot” pointed to a similar sentiment and said, “It’s f ** ked how there are no CLOTHING SAVINGS for Splatoon 2 and Pokemon games.”
When a Redditor showed Game Freak the reason they did not have them cheat, another player ‘GlitchParrot’ replied with, ‘They found a way for Animal Crossing not to duplicate items, they could do the same for Pokemon. ‘
The community continued to erupt at the RPG, encouraging the creator of the subject to write a letter to both Nintendo and Game Freak. If nothing else, this story serves as an example of how important having a backup backup feature on the Switch really is.
Unfortunately for the Pokemon fan, they had imported years of characters from the Home app in Shield, which means they’re gone forever. While many offer to send rare monsters to the user, they will understandably take a hiatus from the series first.
