Platform owner joins Coca-Cola, Honda, Unilever, Ford, Starbucks and Microsoft
PlayStation is the last major organization to temporarily stop advertising on Facebook and Instagram.
It is part of the #StopHateForProfit campaign. Facebook has come under fire for its rules around allowing hateful content and misinformation to be visible on its platform. While other social media outlets, like Twitter and Twitch, recently began cracking down on hate speech on their platform.
PlayStation said in a statement: “In support of the #StopHateForProfit campaign, we have globally suspended our Facebook and Instagram activity, including advertising and unpaid content, until the end of July. We support working (and playing) together forever.”
Microsoft reportedly also stopped advertising on Facebook during the month, though awkwardly following news that it has partnered with the company through its Facebook Gaming streaming platform.
