Pixel 5 screen gaps reported by Google are ‘normal’

“We have had the opportunity to inspect customer units and, together with our factory quality control data, we can confirm that the difference in clearance between the body and the display is a common part of your Pixel 5 design. There is no effect on your water and dust resistance or efficiency. We will work on an individual basis to address the concerns that customers may have. ”

Some gaps are more obvious than others, though, and at least one Pixel 5 owner is already seeing dust accumulate in them. Unfortunately, the expert did not explain why there is “diversity in clearance between body and performance” and if it is due to the assembly process. The good news is that Google seems ready to replace the affected devices, based on reports from owners who have successfully acquired the company by switching their phones. We’ve reached out to Google for more information on this issue and what customers can do and will update this post when we hear back.
