Pixar Unveils Italy’s Coming of Age Story ‘Luca’ – Deadline


Pixar Animation Studios has dated its history of coming of age established in Italy Luca for an American bow on June 18, 2021. Pic marks the directorial debut of Oscar nominee Enrico Casarosa (Moon) Andrea Warren (Lava, Cars 3) is producing.

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated film is a coming-of-age story about a boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with ice cream, pasta, and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deep secret: he is an otherworldly sea monster just below the surface of the water.

Casarosa has worked for Pixar as a storyboard artist in likes of Ratatouille and Up.

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it is set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the center of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course for who we want to become and it is those ties that are at the heart of our history in Luca“Casarosa said.” So, in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian coast, our film will present an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca. “

Disney’s most recent Pixar release was Ahead, and has the led by Pete Docter soul scheduled for November 20 of this year. The latter would have played at Cannes this year were it not for the cancellation of the festival.
